A Few Antique Maps & Views of Paris from Michael Jennings Antique Maps
Antique maps and Paris have been linked for me since 1976-7.. I lived in Paris for a year before starting a Masters at the LSE and in November of that year started working part time specialising in antique maps for Laurence Worms at Ash Rare Books in the actual ‘City of London’.
I have specialised in French maps over the years and here am listing a few interesting antique maps of Paris I have on my website at reasonable prices.
Munster published 2 maps of Paris and below is an early printing of the second map. The woodblock map with a interesting decorative border.

Merian’s panorama of Paris in mint condition. Merian produced 2 panoramas and this is the most sought after. First published in 1638 this example was printed in 1655 . £1150
From Mallet’s Description De L’Univers this plan is credited to P Aveline in Les Plans De Paris by Boutier 1685 Frankfurt £ 95
This quite rare Van der Aa view of Paris was printed for the ‘Galerie Agreable du Monde’ in 1730 and is a double printing. The decorative border and view printed from 2 plates. £300
The Homann plan and view Paris PROSPECT UND GRUNDRISS PARIS has an original colour plan above a copy of Merian’s famous panorama. Printed circa 1730 £875
Seutter’s very attractive and finely detailed folio plan of Paris also depicts its surrounding faubourgs and environs. A long note at lower right explains that Paris is divided into three parts, namely the City, the Town and the University. C 1740 £795
Le Rouge’s small but finely detailed PLAN DE PARIS shows much detail outside the city walls. 1748 £185
Stockdale’s English map of Paris. Nice cartouche. Initially printed in 1771 but this edition marked 1800. £145
Uncommon large very detailed plan of Paris by Pierre Jean. Original outline colour. Printed first in 1797 but this edition 1806. £395
